FAQs for creators

I’m a creator. What’s in it for me?

Your future video royalties unlock funding opportunities now.

  • As a creator, you no longer have to wait for your monthly AdSense payouts and can scale your channel and business faster. You can earn supporting contributions for your creator videos, upfront.
  • Build a closer relationship with your supporters and fans, list a portion of your creator videos catalogue, and receive funding for your next video projects.
  • When you list your video on TUBETRADER, you will be offering a percentage of future royalties’ income from the AdSense revenue the video generates with supporters and fans.

You will NOT be offering shares in your brand or sponsorship deals or your channel and or company and will retain 100% control of your business.

Supporters and fans will be contributing in your creator video future royalty revenue only. They’re not buying your rights.

Royalties don’t include rights ownership

Supporters and fans don’t own any of your creative work. It’s what you call passive investment, and that means you the creator keep total creative control.

Why would I sell my future royalties?

Selling a portion of your royalty stream to supporters and fans allows you to:

  • Raise many months or even years’ worth of royalty payments upfront without giving up control over your future earnings or going into debt.
  • Diversify both your risk (protecting you against potential royalty shortfalls in the future) and your income stream (by allowing you to use the money to invest and produce new video content and scale your business faster).

Is this a royalty in advance?

No, this is a sale of a percentage of your royalty income in return for upfront payment of future earnings. It’s better than an advance because it allows you to continue earning royalties on the percent that you don’t sell, and doesn’t involve predatory or confusing payback terms or interest rates.

At what price do I list my video future royalties’ shares?

The initial share price offering is determined by you, the creator/rights holder. The market cap must fall within a realistic range to ensure financial sanity and protect both creators, supporters, and fans.

Understanding how AdSense works.

YouTube AdSense revenue depends on a variety of factors, including niche, seasonality, video length, viewer demographics, engagement levels, and ad placements. Here’s an in-depth explanation of each factor and how it influences earnings:

  1. Niche (Content Category)
    • High-CPM Niches: Certain niches like finance, technology, real estate, and health tend to attract advertisers willing to pay a premium because their products/services have high profit margins. For example, an ad for investment services may have a higher cost per mille (CPM) than one for toys.
    • Low-CPM Niches: Entertainment, gaming, and vlogging often have lower CPMs because advertisers in these niches may target broader, less affluent audiences with smaller purchasing power.
  2. Audience Demographics
    • Geography: Viewers in countries like the US, UK, Canada, and Australia typically generate higher CPMs than those in developing regions due to stronger economies and higher advertiser competition.
    • Age Group: Videos targeting older, professional audiences tend to generate higher revenue since advertisers often cater to individuals with higher disposable income.
    • Language: Content in English tends to attract higher-paying ads because of its global reach and appeal.
  3. Seasonality
    • Peak Seasons: Advertisers typically increase spending during specific times of the year, like the holiday season (November-December), leading to higher CPMs. Black Friday and Christmas-related content benefit significantly.
    • Low Seasons: Ad budgets often decrease in January and February, leading to lower CPMs during this period.
  4. Video Length
    • Short Videos (Under 8 Minutes): Only one ad can be placed at the beginning or end, limiting the revenue potential.
    • Longer Videos (8+ Minutes): YouTube allows mid-roll ads, enabling creators to add multiple ads throughout the video. More ads mean higher revenue, especially if viewers don’t skip them.
  5. Viewer Engagement
    • Watch Time: Longer watch times often correlate with higher ad impressions, as viewers are exposed to more mid-roll ads.
    • Ad Interaction: Revenue increases if viewers click on ads (CPC ads) or watch them without skipping (CPV ads).
    • Audience Retention: Videos with high audience retention are more likely to be promoted by YouTube, increasing views and ad revenue.
  6. Type of Ads
    • Skippable Ads: These generate revenue only if the viewer watches for at least 30 seconds or clicks on them. Earnings are lower if viewers frequently skip.
    • Non-Skippable Ads: Advertisers pay more for these since they guarantee full exposure to the audience.
    • Display Ads: Appear on the side or below the video, and revenue depends on click-through rates.
    • Premium Ads: YouTube Premium subscribers watching the video generate revenue without ads, paid by YouTube’s subscription model.
  7. Platform-Specific Metrics
    • RPM (Revenue per Mille): Shows how much a creator earns per 1,000 views (combining AdSense and other monetization methods).
    • CTR (Click-Through Rate): Affects earnings for display and clickable video ads.
  8. Video Content and Trends
    • Trending Topics: Videos related to current events, trending topics, or viral challenges can attract higher traffic, increasing ad revenue.
    • Evergreen Content: Long-lasting content (e.g., tutorials, how-to) may generate consistent revenue over time.
    • Advertiser-Friendliness: Videos that violate YouTube’s advertiser-friendly guidelines (e.g., containing explicit content) may get limited ads or no monetization.
  9. Volume and Frequency
    • Regular uploads keep viewers engaged and can increase ad revenue due to higher overall watch time and more opportunities for ads.
  10. Ad Inventory and Demand
    • The availability of ad slots relative to advertiser demand can significantly affect CPMs. For instance, a high demand for ad space in competitive niches (e.g., tech reviews during product launches) can drive up CPM rates.

Practical Example:

Imagine two creators:

  1. Creator A: Makes 15-minute videos on personal finance, targeting US audiences. They consistently upload twice a week.
    • Expected Revenue: High, due to premium niche, long video length (with multiple ads), and affluent target audience.
  2. Creator B: Posts 6-minute gaming videos for a global audience.
    • Expected Revenue: Moderate to low, due to a less lucrative niche and shorter video length with fewer ad slots.
